“The new materials have a different combination of stiffness and stretchiness compared to both existing bioplastics and traditional plastics. They can also inherit the properties of the original plant, meaning parsley plastic could have antioxidant properties, or cinnamon plastic could be antibacterial.”

Our view: Let’s legalize hemp

Editorial

Hemp is not marijuana.
It looks like marijuana.

It’s related to marijuana.

But it’s not marijuana.

You can’t get high off of it. But someday, maybe, you could get rich off of it. Well, OK, maybe not rich. But there might be some money to be made in a plant fiber so useful that it can be used in making things from auto parts to yarn. Not quite A to Z, but close enough.

A hemp car? Really? Apparently so. “Hemp fibers have higher strength to weight ratios than steel and can also be considerably cheaper to manufacture,” reports Alan Crosky of the School of Material Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales in Australia. He and other researchers are working on using hemp fiber to replace plastic in some car parts. The result could be a car that has more fuel efficiency because it weighs so much less, but is still just as strong.

The Marijuana Retirement: How My Parents Became Late-Life Pot Moguls

By

At some point in the middle of my 70-year-old mom’s bong rip, as the distinctive schalp schlap schlap sound echoed in the kitchen, it dawned on me that my family life had recently taken a strange turn. Through a haze of pungent smoke I saw not just the woman who raised me, but a late-life social pioneer. Just a few years ago, my parents were a solid middle-class couple in a wholesome midwestern town who faced a fairly normal array of financial uncertainties and stresses as their careers wound down. But now, they have embarked on an astonishing second act in life — call it a Walter White retirement. Today, Mom and Dad are on the West Coast, living at the edge of the law, and bringing home huge wads of cash growing extremely high-grade weed in their backyard.

“Young follows the information about cotton agriculture with a few tips on sustainable laundry habits, noting that most of a garment’s environmental impacts come from washing and drying. Among the rumpled-rocker-friendly tips, he suggests line-drying over machine drying, skipping the iron and washing less often. He also notes that hemp is an even better choice than organic cotton, but less widely available.”

Cassie Batten and Rhett Wallace’s home was raided just weeks after revealing on Sunday Night they treated their severely epileptic son with cannabis oil.

The Epping Sex Offences and Child Abuse Investigation team raided the family’s Mernda home and seized all of the three-year-old’s cannabis oil tincture, which he began receiving under doctor’s supervision.

Cooper was born healthy, but contracted meningitis which left him suffering from hundreds of life-threatening seizures a day.

The family turned to the oil after Cooper did not respond to epilepsy medications and soon his seizures went from hundreds a day to two or three.

“Cooper uses his vision a lot more now than he ever has, he is more alert about his surroundings he’s not crawling yet but he’s close to it, he gets up on all fours”

“Without the cannabis oil we wouldn’t have our son today. We would be visiting him in a cemetery.”

His father says without the cannabis oil he will deteriorate quickly.
