A Byron Bay industrial hemp farm is opening its doors to the public for daily eco-tours from 9th October. Family friendly, visitors to this sustainable permaculture farm may experience all the action of an eco farm without the hard work!
Industrial hemp has been legal to grow in Australia and New South Wales in particular for a few years now. Byron Bay’s first industrial hemp farm is run by local hemp expert, Director and Founder of the Hemp Farm Paul Benhaim who states “This is a normal crop in Europe, I was surprised to learn Australian’s have been missing out on all the fun of growing a crop of industrial hemp in Australia and it is about time I did something about this.”
Industrial hemp is well known for it’s use in ropes and clothes, but visitors to the Hemp Farm get a lot more. You can see the crop grow and learn about the equipment required for growing, harvesting and processing. The hemp farm is planned to be Australia’s centre of hemp food processing, with hemp seeds and hemp oil production already in place with plans for expansion early next year.
Visitors to the eco farm can see a demonstration of hemp milk, hemp ice-cream or hemp chocolate making and if you are lucky – get a taste of these healthy nutritious products that are sold widely throughout Europe and North America.

Let It Grow – By John Sinclair
I left Amsterdam last week, after the shit hit the fan in Michigan, and the Dutch authorities were striving to match the sheer idiocy of the anti-marijuana crusaders in the United States by forcing 58 licensed cannabis coffeeshops out of business pursuant to a recent dictum that weed can’t be offered for consumption within 350 meters of a secondary school. “The cabinet does not want pupils’ education careers going up in smoke,” puffed education minister Marja van Bijsterveldt.
These grandstanding plays aimed at the most regressive sector of the citizenry look noble and civic-minded on the surface, but, in fact, have no actual relevance in terms of public safety. The coffeeshops being shut down have existed in proximity to the schools for 30 or 40 years with no appreciable impact on the student population.
In fact, nothing is more difficult in the Centrum of Amsterdam than minors acquiring cannabis products at a coffeeshop — or even getting up to the hash counter to order up some smoke. Strict ID checks are conducted without fail, because minors on the premises are grounds for immediate suspension of the shop’s cannabis privileges. Even if the school were next door to the coffeeshop, no students would be allowed entry in any event — ever.
Like raiding growrooms and linking growing to “serious crime” and “criminal violence,” shutting down marijuana outlets because of their proximity to a schoolhouse is an entirely cynical political ploy directed at the addled denizens of the religious and secular right in a last-ditch attempt to stave off the ever-encroaching rule of reason. But the real shame is that these small, independent businesses are being hounded out of existence in increasing numbers.

The Oldest Recorded Cannabis Recipe

The following recipe is taken from what is considered the oldest cookbook ever written. Known as De Honesta Voluptate Et Valetudine (Of Honest Voluptuousness and Health), it was written by Bartholomaeus Platina in 1475 and contained around 300 recipes, one of them being for cannabis.
The recipe goes as follows:
To make cannabis yourself known as flax for thread
Use a mallet to crush clods collect after good harvest
Taken as food in wine or cake
Add cannabis to nard oil in an iron pot
Crush together over some heat until juice
A health drink of cannabis nectar
Carefully treat food and divide for the stomach and the head
finally remember everything in excess may be harmful or criminal.

Vancouver manufacturer creates a buzz in apparel
Changing the way an industry does business takes time, especially if there is a perfectly acceptable and entrenched way of doing things. Try doing it on your own and you may find more than a few closed doors, which underlines the importance of working with, not against, existing industry players.
A collaborative approach certainly is paying off for Naturally Advanced Technologies Inc. (NAT). Initially, it was primarily a hemp apparel manufacturer. But when industry veteran Ken Barker joined as CEO in 2006, he quickly realized the Vancouver-based company offered more potential than just selling T-shirts made from alternative fibres.
NAT first had to prove the hemp and flax fibres it manufactures, using enzymes to break down the raw material into fine strands, were a more effective, durable and sustainable alternative to cotton, which has been used to make clothing for millennia.
At the time, cotton was cheaper than alternative fibres even though it’s a land-intensive crop that requires huge quantities of water and large amounts of pesticides.

Tennessee Congressman Cohen Pushes to Legalize Marijuana
Memphis, Tn – Congressman Steve Cohen is making another push to legalize marijuana.
Monday, the Democratic Congressman from Memphis sent the Federal Drug Czar a letter asking the Office of National Drug Control Policy rethink marijuana laws.
Cohen said in part, “There is no evidence that marijuana has the same addictive qualities or damaging consequences as cocaine, heroin or methamphetamine and should not be treated as such.”

BMW i3 Concept – made with Hemp
Between the use of 50 percent recycled aluminum in the chassis and making interior panels and seats out of hemp fibers, recycled water bottles and the like, the lifetime global warming potentialof the fully electric i3 is said to be a third less than that of a similar diesel 1-series hatch. That drops to half if recharged using renewable electricity. The Leipzig plant that will build the i3 will also consume 70 percent less water per vehicle and run on 100 percent renewable energy.
Run From the Cure (Rick Simpson – 2008)
After a serious head injury in 1997, Rick Simpson sought relief from his medical condition through the use of medicinal hemp oil. When Rick discovered that the hemp oil (with its high concentration of THC) cured cancers and other illnesses, he tried to share it with as many people as he could free of charge – curing and controlling literally hundreds of people’s illnesses… but when the story went public, the long arm of the law snatched the medicine – leaving potentially thousands of people without their cancer treatments – and leaving Rick with unconstitutional charges of possessing and trafficking marijuana! Canada is in the middle of a CANCER EPIDEMIC!
This film allows you to meet the individuals who were not allowed to testify on Rick’s behalf at the Supreme Court of Canada’s Infamous Rick Simpson Trial on September 10, 2007…
INCLUDING A MAN WHO WAS CURED OF TERMINAL CANCER USING HEMP OIL! IF YOU SEE ONLY ONE DOCUMENTARY THIS YEAR… MAKE IT THIS ONE!

Tabouli
1 cup hempseed
1 cup chopped fresh parsley
1/4 cup chopped fresh spearmint
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 cucumber, chopped
Juice of 1 lemon juice
1 cup hempseed
1/4 cup hempseed oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
Put them all together in a big bowl and mix them all about! Chill before serving for 1/2 hour. (Serves 4-6)
Tabouli Salad is a great way to use colorful antioxidant rich fresh produce. Sunripened tomatoes, cool cukes, sensuous spearmint, and hip hempseed as an alternative to the gluten containing bulgur wheat, which is traditionally used. Hemp can provide omega 3s, protein and vitamin E. The hempseed oil adds a lovely richness that might even win over olive oil aficionados. There is no THC in the hempseed or oil. Try this Mediterranean treat that can be a meal in itself!
For those of you that have never tried Hempseed (Cannabis sativa), it is a member of the Cannabaceae (Hemp) Family and one of the oldest cultivated plants on the planet. Hempseed is really akin to a nutrient dense grain, though it contains no gluten and is not in the Poaceae (Grass) Family that grains like wheat, rye, barley, spelt and kamut fall into. Hempseeds can be useful in special diets where people have intolerances to dairy, soy, corn and gluten, as it is easily tolerated and digestible.
